MEAC Football Players of the Week – Week 3

Bethune-Cookman University quarterback Akevious Williams was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced today. Morgan State’s Donte Small was named Defensive Player of the Week while Morgan State’s Josh Miles received Offensive Lineman of the Week honors. Xavier Smith of Florida A&M was named Rookie of the Week while Florida A&M’s Chris Faddoul was tabbed as the Specialist of the Week.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

6-3, 185, R-Jr.
Madison, Fla.

For the third consecutive game, Williams came off the bench to give the BCU offense a spark against FBS opponent Florida Atlantic. Williams finished the game with 201 yards passing and three touchdowns with 18 completions on 27 attempts. He would add a rushing touchdown with 23 yards on four carries overall. For Williams, it was his second consecutive game accounting for at least four touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Donte Small
Morgan State

CB
6-0, 195, So.
Union, N.J.

Small recorded his first three interceptions of the season, including one he returned 45 yards for a touchdown to give the Bears a 27-23 lead with 7:55 remaining in the game at Albany. The Bears forced four turnovers on the night with four interceptions and a fumble.

OFFENSIVE LINEMAN OF THE WEEK

6-6, 310, Sr.
Baltimore, Md.

Miles helped lead the Bears to their most productive game so far this season.  He paved the way for an offense which churned out 400-plus yards. MSU amassed 229 yards on the ground (4.5 avg) and finished with 193 yards in the air.

SPECIALIST OF THE WEEK

Florida A&M

Wesley Chapel, Fla.

Faddoul averaged 47.6 yards per punt on five kicks while also downing a pair inside the Jackson State 20-yard line. He finished with a long of 56 yards.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

Xavier Smith
Florida A&M
WR
5-10, 165, R-Fr.
Haines City, Fla.

Smith caught six receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown pass in Saturday’s match-up against Jackson State. He also rushed for 19 yards on an end around as he accounted for 102 all-purpose yards.

NOTABLE PERFORMERS

L’Dre Barnes (OL/Bethune-Cookman)
Barnes graded out at 88 percent as BCU finished with 332 yards of total offense at Florida Atlantic. He also allowed no sacks on the evening.

Javaunie Francis (P/Bethune-Cookman) .
Francis averaged 42.3 yds on six punts with a long of 52 yards.

Deandre Harris (QB/Morgan State)                                       
Harris completed 7-of-18 passes for 193 yards versus Albany, including a pair of touchdown passes. He also ran for a game-high 99 yards on 19 carries.

Jamauri Laguerre (CB/Bethune-Cookman)                          
Laguerre registered a game-high matching eight tackles (seven solo) while also picking off a pass against Florida Atlantic.

Nick O’Shea (P/Morgan State)
O’Shea averaged 35.9 yards on 10 punts, including a long of 50 yards and had a pair of punts downed inside the 20.

Elijah Richardson (LB/Florida A&M)
Richardson had 10 total tackles (6 solo), 2.5 tackles for loss (11 yards); one sack and one forced fumble in Saturday’s contest versus Jackson State.

Ryan Stanley (QB/Florida A&M) 
Stanley completed 70.2 percent of his passes (26-of-37) for a career-high 340 yards and one touchdown versus Jackson State. He also rushed for 32 yards on 10 carries, with a long run of 18 yards.
