FORT VALLEY, Ga. — The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University clinched the second straight SIAC Eastern Division Title this afternoon with their 52-7 victory over the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College. The Wildcats had to take care of business and they did while looking for help from Benedict in their game with Albany State. A loss by Albany State would knock them out of the running for the title. The Wildcats showed up and showed out as they wanted everyone to know just how much this game meant to them. FVSU still have one game left to play that is with Albany State.

Fort Valley State fans watched their home team on the field, while keeping a close eye on the Benedict and Albany State score. With the Benedict win, FVSU will host the SIAC Championship game at Wildcat Stadium on Saturday, November 11. Game time is TBA and will be aired on ESPN3 or Aspire TV.

The players worked hard all season in hopes of a repeat and step-by-step things are falling into place; first the SIAC Division Title and then the SIAC Championship.

The Wildcats defense held Morehouse running backs to seven yards rushing in the first half and four yards in the second half for a total of 11-yards.

FVSU’s offense pounded out 377-yards of total offense, 240-yards in the air and 137-yards on the ground. The turning point came on Morehouse’s five turnovers, three fumbles and two interceptions of which the Wildcats took advantage of.

Running backs Lorenzo Smothers and Christopher Weems led the team in rushing with 39 and 31-yards. Quarterback Slade Jarman threw for 196-yards while completing 11-of-19 passes and three touchdowns. Demontay Jones got in on the action with 3-of-4 completions for 44-yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver forced Tajee Steele led FVSU with five catches, 101-yards, and one touchdown, while Jeremy Glinton pulled in four catches, 80-yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcat defense played hard with Walter Tucker and David Brown having six tackles apiece. Tucker had one sack, four tackle-for-loss and forced three fumbles.

Morehouse went four and out on their first possession, then the team set Juan Serna up on three plays for the 35-yard field goal (3-0). Jeremy Glinton caught a 45-yard touchdown pass from Jarman to make the score (10-0). The Maroon Tigers closed the gap before halftime with their only seven points of the game with six minutes on the clock before halftime (10-7).

The second half would be all Wildcats, as Jarman rushed up the middle for a three-yard touchdown; (17-7). Walter Tucker forced a fumble and scored for the Wildcats. Jarman completed touchdown passes to Steele and Chauncey Jackson from 36 and 14-yards away; (38-7). Cameron Young intercepted a Michael Sims pass and returned it 41-yards for the final score in the third quarter; (45-7).

Jones came off the bench to throw the final touchdown to Lamont Clark from 16-yards out with 9:46 left in the game; (52-7).

The Wildcats will travel to Columbus, GA on Saturday, November 4 to take on the Rams of Albany State University in the 28th Fountain City Classic. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
