BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Grambling State quarterback Devante Kincade, Mississippi Valley State safety Reggie Jackson, Texas Southern kicker Eric Medina, and Alabama State linebacker Singleton have been recognized by the Southwestern Athletic Conference for their outstanding performances during week five of the 2016 season. [lasso align=”right” cart=”y” identifier=”B003M9U48O” locale=”US” tag=”hbcusports-20″ ref=”amzn-ncaa-grambling-tigers-27-by-37-inch-vertical-flag” type=”single” id=”71798″ link_id=”5026″]

QB | Jr. | 6-1 | 190 | Dallas, Texas

Kincade had another dominant outing for the Tigers in their 36-16 win over Prairie View A&M during the State Fair Classic. He accounted for three total scores, throwing for 207 yards and one touchdown, and scampering for 105 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. This is the second straight weekly honor for the junior signal-caller.

Defensive Player of the Week
Reggie Jackson

SS | So. | 6-1 | 215 lbs. | Montgomery, Ala.

Jackson was a defensive force for the Delta Devils despite MVSU’s 16-14 loss to in-state rival Jackson State. The defensive back posted 12 total tackles and made 1.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage. He also forced one fumble and picked off a pass during the contest.

Eric Medina
Texas Southern
Kicker
K | Sr. | 5-11 | 195 lbs. | LaPorte, Texas

Medina was the difference for Texas Southern, who picked up its third straight conference win for the first time since 2000. The senior booted a career-long 51-yard game-winning field goal to push the Tigers to a 34-31 win over Alabama A&M. as time expired. Medina nailed two field goals on the night to go along with four extra points.

Newcomer of the Week
Derron Johnson
Alabama State
Linebacker
LB | Fr. | 6-1 | 225 lbs. | Memphis, Tenn.

Johnson continued to make an impact for the Alabama State defense, as he posted a team0high eight stops — seven solo — in the Hornets’ 41-21 win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. He also had 1.5 tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a minus three yards and added a quarterback pressure. The freshman currently leads the Hornets in stops (31).
