SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Savannah State football program will start a new chapter on July 29 with the beginning of the Erik Raeburn era. Raeburn was hired as the SSU head coach in March.

New and returning players will be checked in, will be issued equipment, will be given housing assignments and will meet with SSU’s athletic medical staff and compliance staff. The following day, players will meet with the athletic academic staff and go over team policies and procedures.
The 2016 team theme is “Above The Line”.
During preseason camp, the squad will have several team-building sessions such as “Tug of War”, ‘Belly Smack Contest”, “Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament”, “7 on 7 Coaches vs. Linemen” and “Mental Training.”
The first of 29 practices will start on July 31 at 8:30 a.m. The Tigers will practice in helmets for two days and in shells for two days before putting on full gear on August 4.
SSU will have two-a-day practices on August 5, 8 and 10 (8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.) and will have scrimmages on August 13 and 22.
Picture Day is slated for August 7 at 8:30 a.m.
Once classes start, the Tigers will have afternoon practices at 3:30 p.m.
