HSRN Polls

Hartly, DE – Alcorn State University maintained its position in the HSRN Division 1 Poll. while Virginia Union University tied Tuskegee University for first place in HSRN’s Division II/NAIA Poll following five full weeks of HBCU football action.

Alcorn State won its fourth straight contest of the season, defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 61-14, in Little Rock. VUU’s Panthers took advantage of Tuskegee’s first loss of the season to vault into a tie with the Golden Tigers for the #1 spot in HSRN’s DivisionII/NAIA Poll.

The Braves have averaged nearly 50 points per game since their season-opening loss to Georgia Tech.

North Carolina A&T remained in second place following a 45-31 road win at Hampton. South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman swapped positions from last week with Tennessee State completing the top five.

Morgan State made its first appearance in the poll, entering at #10.

In Division II, Tuskegee’s unbeaten streak was broken and Virginia Union got enough points to tie the Golden Tigers for first place. The Panthers have been hovering near the top spot for most of the season. Both Tuskegee and Virginia Union were in North Carolina last weekend. TU lost at UNC-

Pembroke while VUU was knocking off Shaw in Durham.

North Carolina was also good to Bowie State with the Bulldogs remaining in third, thanks to a win over Johnson C. Smith in Charlotte.

Chowan rolled into fourth position with its third straight win, a 27-24 road victory over Winston-Salem State. Virginia State held onto the fifth spot as CIAA schools grabbed six of the top seven positions in the poll.

The Braves had a resounding 61-14 victory over Arkansas-Pine Bluff in Little Rock on Saturday, the fourth win in a row for the Braves.  N.C. A&T got past Hampton 45-31.

Alcorn State received all but one first-place vote in the coaches poll.

Bethune-Cookman who defeated North Carolina Central 28-26 on the road and Tennessee State both moved up a spot this week to No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, aided by South Carolina State’s 17-3 loss to Furman, which dropped the Bulldogs to No. 5.

Morgan State and Norfolk State both won on the road – the Bears defeating Delaware State 26-6 and the Spartans coming from behind to defeat Howard 15-12 – and moved into the top 10, MSU at No. 9 and NSU tied for No. 10 with North Carolina Central.

In the media poll, ASU unseats N.C. A&T, who has sat atop the media poll for four of the first five weeks.  It marks the first time this year that the Braves are No. 1 with the media.

South Carolina State fell two spots to No. 5.  Tuskegee lost for the first time this year and fell three spots to No. 8.

It’s amazing none of the polls have given GSU any respect this year as if they are a joke. Trust me they will dismantle everyone in the SWAC and BC when they meet again for the national championship. This team is no joke and no one else they play is of Cal quality so please stop judging them based on one lopsided lost because I promise you every coach they face will have the same response, I Don’t Know What Happen starting with your number (1) for now until next week Alcorn. And you had the ordacity to play us for your homecoming, stupid fools.

I’m still trying to figured out how you put a team that’s leading in their conference below the team they are ahead of.
