SIAC Football Players Of The Week – Sept. 28

ATLANTA – Kevin Lacey (Tuskegee) was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Braysean Jones (Miles College) was picked as the Defensive Player of the Week, announced by the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), Monday morning.

Nathaniel Robinson (Kentucky State) was selected as the Special Teams Player of the Week and Ashton McKenzie (Miles College) earned the Newcomer of the Week honor.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kevin Lacey
Tuskegee
QB • 6-6 • 175 • Jr. • Wetumpka, Ala.
Lacey put up 332 yards of the 481 yards gained by the Golden Tigers on Saturday against Lane (69 percent of the offense). The junior put up a season-high 81 yards rushing on 10 carries, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. He also scored two touchdowns on the ground, with a long run of 28 yards. He also threw for a career-high 241 yards on 10-of-18 passing with a pair of touchdowns. He completed a long of 63 yards for a touchdown. At the end of the day, Lacey tied or set new career-highs in carries, rushing touchdowns, passing yards and passing touchdowns.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Braysean Jones
Miles College
DE, • 6-1 • 205 • R-Sr. • Montgomery, Ala.
Jones put on a show against Morehouse, contributing 11 tackles (seven solo) with 4.5 sacks (loss of 25 yards), a quarterback hurry and a forced fumble in Miles’ 13-10 win over the Maroon Tigers, who entered the game as the top offensive team in the SIAC. For the season, he now has 29 tackles (15 solo), 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Nathaniel Robinson
Kentucky State
LB • 5-11 • 190 • Sr. • Washington, D.C.
Robinson blocked a punt and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter of Saturday’s victory over Central State in the Circle City Classic. He also recorded 10 tackles with seven solo stops on the defensive side of the ball.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK
Ashton McKenzie
Miles College
DT• 5-10 • 245 • Jr. • Bronx, NY
McKenzie was a dominant force for the Miles defense in a 13-10 win over Morehouse. He had five tackles, all solo, three tackles for loss, two sacks and forced two fumbles as the Golden Bears had seven sacks and forced four turnovers against the SIAC’s No. 1 offense. On the season, McKenzie has 14 tackles (11 solo), four tackles for loss and two sacks.
