Leading up to this week’s annual Southwestern Athletic Conference Media Day, HBCU Sports will forecast our preseason predictions for the upcoming 2015 season.
SWAC West Champion – Grambling State
Grambling State was one play away from possibly winning the SWAC Western Division and playing for a conference title many believed they were years from even sniffing.
The 2014 season was supposed to turn out the way it did. Grambling was picked to finish dead last in the division just a year after the program made national headlines for a player-led boycott.
Last year was expected to be a rebuilding season under then rookie head coach Broderick Fobbs.
But led by stud defensive end Jevonta Williams and the surprising play of third-string quarterback Johnathan Williams, the Tigers won seven games after totaling just two during the 2012 and 2013 seasons combined.
Grambling will not sneak up on any opponent in 2016. They will be expected to contend for a championship. Grambling’s head coach certainly believes so, too.
“For me, it’s just about the goal, the trophy and the ring and the finish line,” Fobbs said.
LOL !!!!
