BIRMINGHAM – Paine College sprinted out of the gate to run past Tuskegee to advance in the 2015 SIAC Basketball Tournament on Tuesday at the Bill Harris Arena.
Paine College (11-16) trailed 38-34 at the half, but led 47-46 with 14:27 on the clock in the second half. The Lady Lions then executed a 20-2 run to put a clamp on the game en route to a 84-60 win.
Janisha Wilkerson led the floor and Paine College with a double-double performance, notching 23 points and 16 rebounds. She shot 11-of-16 and tallied three steals as Paine College shot 37 percent overall and won the rebounding effort, 52-37.
Tannasia Rhodes added 18 points and seven boards with Brianna Sims tacking on 11 points and five rebounds.
For Tuskegee (2-24), Rachel Brownlee scored 21 points to complement seven rebounds. Jacqueline Martin and Kaylen Ward chipped in 10 points apiece.
Paine College will take on LeMoyne-Owen in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
