NCCU sets school record in win over College of Faith

DURHAM, N.C. – A 36-to-12 run midway through the first half was all North Carolina Central University needed en route to setting a school record for points in a game as the Eagles took down the College of Faith 123-65 on Tuesday night in McDougald-McLendon Gym.

The 123 points broke the previous record of 119 scored on March 12, 1949 when NCCU beat Winston-Salem State 119-65.

Senior Jordan Parks ended the game with a career-best 30 points on 13-for-17 shooting that included a crowd-pleasing windmill dunk that was preceded by sophomore Kevin Crawford’s unbelievable one-handed steal and save to start the play.

Crawford had by-far his best night in an NCCU uniform recording his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 helpers to go along with his Eagle best 3 steals.

All total, the maroon and gray finished with six players in double figures as Anthony McDonald (22 points), Jamal Ferguson added 18 points, Jeremiah Ingram contributed 15 points, while Dante Holmes dropped-in 13 points in the win.

College of Faith (1-4) was led by Justin Sellers who led the Saints with 22 points on 6-of-12 shooting from-the-field.

The win gives Moton win No. 90 at NCCU on the same date as his first victory which came on Nov. 18, 2009 as the Eagles beat North Carolina Wesleyan 85-70.

NCCU (1-1) won the rebound battle 48-22 and forced 29 Saint turnovers in the victory as they move on to the first matchup in the 2014 Emerald Coast Classic as the Eagles take on the Creighton Bluejays for the second time in program history.

That contest is slated for 4:00 p.m. (EST) on Sunday, Nov. 23 inside the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska and will be televised live on Fox Sports 1.

Ninth-ranked Cavaliers knock off Bulldogs

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—The No.9 Virginia Cavaliers handed South Carolina State their third loss of the season in a 75-55 victory over the Bulldogs Tuesday at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Bulldogs (0-3) were led by sophomore walk-on Karon Wright with 15 points, all coming on 3-pointers in the second half. Sophomore guard Greg Mortimer added 10 points and junior Gabe McCray nine, but the team shot just 32.8 percent (19-58).

UVA finished with four players in double figures with junior guard Justin Anderson and redshirt junior Malcolm Brodgon both finishing with a game-high 17 points each.  Junior forward Anthony Gill added 11 and grabbed eight rebounds, while junior center Mikey Tobey chipped in 10 in the win..

The Cavaliers remain undefeated on the season at 3-0 and lead the series 2-0 between the two teams, while South Carolina State falls to 0-3.
