Auburn def. GRAMBLING STATE, 92-42
Auburn, Ala. – The Grambling State University women’s basketball team dropped their second game of the season on the road 42-92 to Auburn University Monday night at the Auburn Arena. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers could not seem to find an answer for 6’2 power forward Tra’Cee Tanner, who led all scorers with a game-high of 31 points. Shakierya McClendon led the way for the GSU, scoring 13 points and adding four rebounds. Monisha Neal followed right behind with 12 points and pulled down three boards. Grambling Lady Tigers shot 80 percent from the free throw line. They were held to only 20 points in the first half as they trailed 20-46. Auburn took advantage over their size in the paint and outscored GSU 16-74. They Lady Tigers shot 28.3 percent from the field while AU shot 59.4. Grambling State will hit the court again as they host their first home game on Thursday, Nov. 20 against Tougaloo College at 6 p.m. at the Frederick C. Hobdy Assembly Center.
Xavier def. ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF, 89-52
Cincinnati, OH – After having five players in double figures, Xavier (2-0) defeated Arkansas-Pine Bluff (0-2) 89-52 Monday night in women basketball action at the Cintas Arena. Shami Goodman led UAPB with a team-high 12 points and five rebounds. Charisse Carr was the only other player in double figures with 11 points and chipped in four rebounds. The Lady Lions had a total of 30 rebounds, 15 on each end, to the Musketeers’ 50 boards. Arkansas-Pine Bluff mad16 attempts at the free throw line but only knocking down seven, resulting in a shooting percentage of 43.8. They shot only 30.0 percent from the field. Going into the second half of the game, UAPB was only down eight points, 26-34. Unfortunately, Xavier outshot them the remainder of the half 55-26. The Lady Lions will return to action November 20, as they host Philander Smith College at the H.O Clemmons Arena at 6 p.m.
LSU def. JACKSON STATE, 52-44 (OT)
BATON ROUGE, La. – Jackson State University dropped their second game of the season 44-52 in overtime to Louisiana State University on Monday night in the Maravich Center. The Lady Tigers proved to be a formative opponent when they faced SEC foe LSU. Senior guard Ayana Hard-Fuller led JSU with 13 points and four rebounds. Lady Tigers’ senior guard Alisa Ross also stepped up to the plate with 11 points and three rebounds. The JSU Lady Tigers trailed LSU 21-30 at the half but made up for the deficit in the second half by scoring 23 points to the LSU’s 14 forcing an overtime. Unfortunately, the Lady Tigers were unable to take advantage of the opportunity and was held to 0 points to the LSU’s 8 in overtime. LSU was led offensively by Ann Jones who scored 12 points with 14 rebounds and one assist. Other stand out players for LSU were Anne Pedersen with 11 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assist and Raigyne Moncrief with 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 assist. The Lady Tigers will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 21 when they travel to Macon, Ga. to face Central Arkansas or Eastern Kentucky in the WNIT tournament.
