MEAC Announces Week 2 Top Performers

NORFOLK, Va., September 8, 2014 – Morgan State’s Herb Walker Jr. was selected as the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.  Felix Small, of North Carolina Central, was named Defensive Player of the Week.

Malik Harris of Delaware State was named Rookie of the Week. Howard teammates Toree Boyd and John Fleck were named Offensive Lineman and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively.

Walker (RB, 5-8, 185, r-So., Cleveland, Ohio) recorded 271 rushing yards on 29 carries with two touchdowns, in his first collegiate start, as he led the Bears’ ground attack in a 28-26 loss to Holy Cross.

Small (DE, 6-2, 255, Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y.) recorded six tackles (five solo), including 2.0 hits for a loss of four yards.  He also forced his second fumble in the first two weeks of season in the Eagles’ home opening win over Elizabeth City State.

Harris (LB, 60, 210, Fr., Potomac, Md.) tallied six tackles, five solo, including two for a loss of four yards against the University of Delaware.

Boyd (OT, 6-4, 310, So., Miami, Fla.) graded out at 98-percent on all blocking assignments and helped Howard gain 437 yards of total offense against Rutgers, including 296 yards on the ground.  He also recorded four pancake blocks.

Fleck (P/PK, 6-2, 200, Jr., Indianapolis, IN) booted four kicks for an average of 61.5 yards (246 yards) with two touchbacks against Rutgers.  He also averaged 44.5 yards on four punts with one dropping inside the 20-yard line.

Other Top Performers

Andre Clarke (NCCU) rushed for 83 yards on 12 carries with three touchdowns in a win over Elizabeth City State.

Julien David (HOW) collected eight total tackles, six solo, and recorded one tackle for a one-yard loss and one pass breakup against the Scarlet Knights.

Hayden Gregory (HAM) finished with seven tackles, including one tackle for a loss of two yards, in the Pirates home opener against William & Mary.

Carl Jones (NCCU) helped the Eagles amass 401 yards of total offense and played in 74 of the team’s 79 plays with a grade of 93-percent along with 8.5 pancake blocks.

Michael Jones (NCCU) averaged 33.3 yards on three punts (100 yards), including a long return of 48 yards. He also returned a kickoff 36 yards to finish with 136 all-purpose yards.

Greg McGhee (HOW) connected on 14 of 29 passes for 168 yards and rushed for 79 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown against Rutgers.

Davon Moore (DSU) recorded seven tackles, six solo, with one breakup against University of Delaware.

Darren Pinnock (MSU) graded out at 93-percent of his assignments without giving up any penalties and did not surrender a single sack as the Bears amassed 413 yards of total offense against Holy Cross.

Kwashaun Quick (NCAT) completed 12 of 32 passes for 106 yards and rushed 17 times for 93 yards with three touchdowns against No. 5 Coastal Carolina.

Ronald Rose (HAM) graded out at 90-percent of his assignments as he aided Hampton with 442 yards of total offense.  He also recorded five pancake blocks in the home opener.

Matthew Thompson (MSU) aided the Bears offensive unit that posted 413 total yards, including 356 yards rushing.

Joshua Thorne (HAM) finished with 10 tackles, one solo, with 0.5 for a loss of three yards.  He also recorded one quarterback hurry and one pass breakup against William & Mary.

Jorrain Washington (HAM) accounted for 164 yards of total offense as he recorded 113 receiving yards on six catches with one touchdown against William & Mary. He also rushed 12 times for 51 yards.

Malcolm Williams (DSU) rushed for 100 yards on 18 carries with one touchdown against Delaware.  He also caught four passes for 41 yards.
