Lorman, Miss.- Two touchdowns and a late field goal was all the Prairie View A&M Panthers needed to secure a 17-7 victory over Alcorn State. With the win the Panthers spoiled Homecoming for Braves fans and put themselves right back in the hunt for the conference title. Once again the Panthers defense set the tone for the contest holding the Braves offense scoreless thru regulation. PVAMU’s Mark Spivey started at the quarterback position after winning the starting slot after an impressive outing last week versus Grambling State. Panther ball carriers Ben Boyd and Donald Babers provided Prairie View A&M with the one-two scoring punch as both ran in scores from inside the Braves red zone. With the victory Prairie View A&M improved their overall mark to 3-2 and now sit at 2-2 in SWAC play. For the game the Panthers amassed 340 total yards (245 R, 95 P). Alcorn State was only able to muster 174 yards against a stingy PVAMU defense (34 R, 140 P). Boyd had a spectacular game rushing the ball six times for 124 yards including a 75-yard scamper that helped seal the game late in the fourth quarter. Babers nearly surpassed the 100 yard mark carrying the ball 28 times for 96 yards. PVAMU will now prepare to travel to Montgomery, Ala. where they will face Alabama State at the Cramton Bowl. Kickoff time has been slated for 1:00 p.m.
