SWAC Baseball Tournament Game 4 – Southern 8, Alabama A&M 3

SU LogoSouthern came back from a 3-1 deficit to defeat Alabama A&M 8-3 in the 2009 SWAC Baseball Tournament.

The Jaguars (26-14) advance to play Grambling State at 6 p.m. Thursday.

The Bulldogs (14-30) scored a pair of runs in the top of the first on an RBI triple and Alton Ellison, who then scored on an error to give Alabama A&M a 2-0 lead. The Jaguars scored in the bottom of the first on an RBI double by Victor Franklin.AAMU added a run in the third when Fabian Harper scored on an error.

Southern scored a run on an RBI single by Frazier Hall in the fourth
inning and a solo home run by James Armstrong in the fifth, the first home run of the Tournament.

The Jaguars took the lead for good with a five-run seventh inning .Brad McDavid’s RBI single scoring Frazier Hall put Southern ahead 4-3. Greg Whitfield’s three-run homer to left field and an RBI fielder’s choice by Ozzie Lamos gave SU an 8-3 lead.

Daniel Garcia (4-0) got the win for Southern, going seven innings allowing six hits and three runs (one earned), walking none and striking out one.

Grant Mattix (3-4) took the loss for Alabama A&M, which will play Jackson State at noon in an elimination game.
