MEAC Media Day brought about an entertaining moment between Delaware State head coach DeSean Jackson and North Carolina Central head coach Trei Oliver during their joint interview.
In a sit-down segment that also featured Howard head coach Ted White, hosted by Pivot Podcast hosts Ryan Clark, Fred Taylor, and Channing Crowder, the coaches were asked about the game they were most excited for this upcoming season.
While Coach Jackson and White were very stoic, saying they were most excited about their respective season openers, Coach Oliver took the blunt approach, expressing his eagerness to play against in-state rival North Carolina A&T.
When asked if that was NC Central’s first game of the season, he responded, “No, it’s not our first game; I don’t know when it is.”
Oliver continued saying, “They know what is is and we know what it is. When I was in school, we didn’t go on their campus and they didn’t come on our campus. You know, much respect to homeboy [Shawn] Gibbs over there I love him to death, but it’s going to go down when we play them.”
This piqued the interest of Coach Jackson who interjected that he thought Oliver would say Delaware State or South Carolina State because of how he was talking about them off the camera.
When Taylor asked if Delaware State and North Carolina Central finished with the same record last season, Coach Jackson flexed his team’s head-to-head win in what was North Carolina Central’s homecoming contest.
While Coach Oliver did acknowledge the loss, he emphasized that his team was, “Coming back to Dover to return that lick.”
North Carolina Central will make the trip to Dover to face Delaware State on October 24, during the opening week of conference play in the MEAC.
