Former North Carolina A&T star defensive back Karon Prunty is on his way to the National Football League (NFL), being selected in the fifth round of the draft by the reigning AFC champion New England Patriots.
Beginning his college career at the University of Kansas, where he spent two seasons, Prunty transferred to the Aggies in 2022, during the team’s final season in the Big South.
He was named to the All-Big South First Team after posting a conference-leading four interceptions. He also recorded 30 total tackles and three pass breakups.
Over the next two seasons, with the A&T now a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), Prunty was named to the All-CAA Third team each year.
Prunty was a breakout star with N.C. A&T
In those years, the former Aggie tallied 70 total tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, an interception, and nine pass breakups.

Prunty spent this past year as a member of Wake Forest, being named to the All-ACC Third Team in his only season with the team.
His eight pass breakups ranked among Wake Forest defenders, adding 40 total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, 1.0 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
This marks the second straight year that a player with ties to North Carolina A&T was selected in the NFL Draft.
Former Aggies running back Bhayshul Tuten was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round last year, going on to contribute 307 rushing yards and five touchdowns as a rookie.
