The Delaware State men’s basketball team experienced a season’s worth of peaks and valleys in one game Wednesday night.
The final peak was satisfying as the 7th seeded Hornets stunned No. 2 Morgan State 75-70 in overtime, advancing to the MEAC semifinals for the 2nd time in three years.
Delaware State (8-22) closed the first half on a 16-6 run to take a 27-15 lead into the locker room, but Morgan State’s offense came to life.
They patiently chipped away at the Hornets’ lead and Alfred Worrell Jr.’s putback with 6:21 to go in regulation gave the Bears (14-16) a 48-46 advantage.
Miles Webb hit two free throws with 25 seconds left to tie the game at 60 and Elijah Davis’ long shot was off, sending the game to overtime.
A Webb basket from in close put DelState ahead to stay at 63-62 and Morgan State never recovered.
Webb, a transfer from Saint Francis (PA), led Delaware State with 18 points and 12 rebounds while Rahmir Moore and Ponce James added 14 and 12 points respectively for the Hornets.

They now move on to face the winner of North Carolina Central and Maryland Eastern Shore Friday March 13 at 8 p.m.
