Trey Holly ran for two touchdowns and Cam’Ron McCoy delivered a go-ahead strike to Khalil Harris in the fourth quarter as Southern rallied to defeat Grambling State 28–27 in the annual Bayou Classic on Saturday in a stunning upset.
The Jaguars (2–10, 1–7 SWAC) trailed from late in the first quarter until McCoy’s 34-yard touchdown pass to Harris put them ahead with 7:16 remaining. McCoy finished 6 of 18 passing for 148 yards.
Grambling (7–5, 4–4) had a chance to reclaim the lead, but kicker Josh McCormick missed a 43-yard field goal attempt with 2:18 left, after earlier connecting from 52 and 39 yards.
The Tigers regained possession with under two minutes remaining, but Andre Crews fumbled at the Southern 38-yard line, where Ckelby Givens recovered with 32 seconds to play to seal the win.
Southern climbed out of a 14–0 first-quarter hole behind rushing scores from Holly and Barry Remo, who broke loose for a 51-yard touchdown early in the second quarter to make it 17–14.

Crews answered with a short 3-yard score for Grambling before Holly’s second touchdown gave the Jaguars renewed life.
Remo finished with 100 yards on seven carries, while Holly added 61 yards on 18 attempts. Grambling quarterback Hayden Benoit completed 16 of 32 passes for 187 yards, throwing touchdowns to Barron Miles Jr. and Keith Jones Jr., but also an interception.
