It doesn’t appear that Andrew Body will play in the Turkey Day for Alabama State against in-state rival Tuskegee.
Hornets head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. all but confirmed it on Monday that the redshirt junior will not suit up for the season finale on Thursday.
“Body’s coming along and I think the optimism was the SWAC championship game or the Celebration Bowl, but either way, like I told him, even if he could play this game, it wouldn’t have made sense,” Alabama State coach Eddie Robinson Jr. told The Montgomery Advertiser.
In Body’s absence, Jacksonville State transfer Te’Sean Smoot has gone 3-0 as the Hornets’ starter. He has thrown for 677 yards and six touchdowns on 62 passing attempts.
“Smoot is doing a great job, so he’ll he’ll be the starter,” said Robinson. “He’s earned it. I mean, the way he’s been playing and playing at a high level, so super proud of him just taking advantage of the opportunity.”
If the Body is unable to play, it will be the second consecutive season that the quarterback has suffered an injury that has left him unable to finish the year. He has not played since sustaining an injury to his right shoulder against Prairie View on Nov. 1.
Body has thrown for 2,112 yards, 24 TD passes and has rushed for 708 yards this season in eight games.
