Alabama State quarterback Andrew Body will reportedly not be lost for the season after sustaining a shoulder injury, according to a report.

HBCU Legends reporter Kyle T. Mosley indicated that Body, who was injured during the Hornets’ 31-28 win over Prairie View last Saturday, “could return to action in approximately two weeks.”

Body’s performance earlier in the season had made him a standout, with a historic rushing effort that placed him among the elite quarterbacks in the FCS.

Body missed all of last season — after just one game — with a shoulder injury. Robinson was excited to have the dual-threat QB fully healthy again, and Body established himself as statistically the best quarterback in the SWAC.

He leads the SWAC in passing (2,112 yards), TD passes (24), and is third in rushing yards (708) for the season.

Te’Sean Smoot, the Hornets’ backup quarterback, finished the game for Alabama State. He will start for Alabama State while Body undergoes rehabilitation.

Smoot, a highly-touted transfer and Ohio native, is positioning himself as the next man up to start against Texas Southern on Saturday.

“Te’Sean came here to compete for the starting job, and he’s been right there with Andrew all offseason,” head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. said on Monday. “He’s ready to step in if needed.”

HBCU Legends reported that “optimism remains high” that Body could play before the season concludes against Tuskegee on Nov. 27.

The Hornets are very much still in the SWAC East race, sitting just one game behind division leader Jackson State.
