A post-HBCU football fifth-quarter band battle between Texas Southern and Southern University ended on a sour note Saturday night when a police altercation in the stands overshadowed it.
A video circulating on social media showed a fan being slammed to the ground by law enforcement during the band’s performance at A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge.
The footage, posted by ESPN journalist Kalan Hooks, depicts a man exchanging words with a group of police officers before being grabbed by the collar and forced to the ground. Two other officers quickly joined in, subduing the fan. A woman accompanying him was also thrown down as she attempted to intervene.

The individual officers involved have not been publicly identified, though they were working in an official capacity with the Baton Rouge Police Department.
By Sunday, talk of brass and percussion gave way to conversations about the use of force and crowd safety.
