When will Alabama State have Andrew Body back?
That still remains an uncertanity days after the dual-threat quarterback sustained a shoulder injury in the Hornets’ 31-28 win over Prairie View on Saturday.
Alabama State Eddie Robinson Jr. revealed on Monday that Body’s injury, which occurred after a second-quarter rushing touchdown, that the quarterback remains under assessment as the team awaits imaging and further medical evaluation.
“He’ll have to go get the imaging today,” Robinson said. “We’re hopeful it’s a rehab-able injury and he might still return this year.”
Body’s performance earlier in the season had made him a standout, with a historic rushing effort that placed him among the elite quarterbacks in the FCS.
Body missed all of last season — after just one game — with a shoulder injury. Robinson was excited to have the dual-threat QB fully healthy again, and Body established himself as statistically the best quarterback in the SWAC.
He leads the SWAC in passing (2,112 yards), TD passes (24), and is third in rushing yards (708) for the season.
Te’Sean Smoot, the Hornets’ backup quarterback, finished the game for Alabama State.

Te’Sean Smoot rising role as potential starter
With Body potentially sidelined, Te’Sean Smoot, a highly-touted transfer and Ohio native, is positioning himself as the next man up.
“Te’Sean came here to compete for the starting job, and he’s been right there with Andrew all offseason,” Robinson said. “He’s ready to step in if needed.”
Smoot, a Jacksonville State transfer, went 4 of 9 for 44 passing yards against the Panthers.
If Body cannot return soon, Smoots will assume command of the Hornets’ offense—a crucial test for both him and the team. The Hornets are still very much in the mix for a SWAC East championship and need to win out and get help to take the division.
