Fort Valley State University has confirmed that arrests have been made following a criminal investigation into hazing allegations involving the Blue Machine Marching Band, according to reports.
School officials stated that the Fort Valley Police Department concluded there was sufficient evidence to support charges, leading to the arrest of several students, according to 13WMAZ-TV.
As a result, the university has suspended the Blue Machine Marching Band indefinitely. The suspension, announced just before homecoming week, means the band will not perform during this year’s homecoming festivities—an absence that will be especially felt during events and celebrations central to campus life and tradition.
“We understand the seriousness of this situation and the impact it has on our community, particularly during Homecoming season,” the university said in a statement. “Our top priority is the safety and well-being of all our students and the entire Wildcat community.”
In addition to cooperating with law enforcement, Fort Valley State has launched an independent administrative investigation, in accordance with university policies, University System of Georgia guidelines, and the federal Stop Campus Hazing Act.
The university described this process as comprehensive, emphasizing that ensuring student safety and well-being remains the institution’s top priority, particularly during homecoming season.
The two suspects are listed as being 21 and 19 years old, and the victim is listed as a 20-year-old. They are all women, the incident report said.
University leaders acknowledge the serious impact of the situation on the community and reaffirm their commitment to accountability and transparency as the internal review continues. Until all administrative steps are completed, the marching band will remain under suspension and will not participate in any homecoming events
