Prairie View A&M took care of business Saturday night, using big-play offense and a resilient second-half defense to notch a 34-21 victory over Northwestern State at Panther Stadium.
The win boosted the Panthers’ positive momentum as they prepare to enter the heart of SWAC play.
Prairie View leaned on the playmaking of quarterback Christian Mose, who threw for three touchdowns and rushed for another, showcasing his dual-threat ability. His 52-yard strike to receiver Ke’Andre Johnson late in the second quarter gave the Panthers a lead they would not relinquish. Johnson finished with 127 yards receiving on six catches, keeping the Demons’ secondary on its heels.
“Our guys responded,” head coach Tremaine Jackson said postgame. “We gave up some early plays we shouldn’t have, but I loved how we settled in and finished. Mose showed why he’s the leader of this team.”
Northwestern State managed to tie the game 14–14 early in the third quarter behind quarterback Zach Clement’s short scoring toss, but the Panthers countered immediately. A sustained 75-yard drive, capped off by a 3-yard run from running back Caleb Williams, swung momentum back toward the home crowd.

The Prairie View defense stiffened from there, forcing two late turnovers that snuffed out Northwestern State drives. Defensive back Tristan Singleton’s interception with 1:12 remaining sealed the victory.
With the win, Prairie View A&M improved to 2-2 on the season and pinned a fourth straight loss on Northwestern State, now 0-4. The Panthers will travel next week to face Alabama State in a SWAC showdown, while the Demons return home in search of their first win against McNeese State.
“This was about building confidence before conference play,” Johnson said. “Now we’ve got to clean up the little things and keep pushing.”
