An HBCU football program has unveiled plans for a new indoor facility.
Grambling State University announced Wednesday a state-of-the-art training and performance complex featuring a 70-yard climate-controlled turf field, with designated areas for sports medicine, strength training, and team preparation, to be built near Eddie G. Robinson Memorial Stadium with a groundbreaking set for Oct. 10.
“This design concept is more than an idea—it’s a promise,” said Grambling athletics director Dr. Trayvean Scott in a release. “We are preparing champions who will carry forward the legacy of Grambling State. This facility is designed with them in mind, ensuring our student-athletes have the tools to compete and excel in every season.”
While the university outlined the vision and features of the project, it did not announce a projected completion date or disclose the overall cost of the facility.
“Supporting our student-athletes means investing in every dimension of their journey—athletic, academic, and personal,” said Grambling State President Martin Lemelle, Jr. “This facility embodies that vision. It is more than a space to train; it is a commitment to their well-being, their preparation, and their legacy. At Grambling State, we are not simply building for today—we are creating pathways that ensure future generations of student-athletes have the resources, opportunities, and support to thrive at the highest level.”
Grambling officials described the project as a significant step forward in providing student-athletes with modern training environments comparable to those at larger programs.
The Oct. 10 groundbreaking will be open to alumni, fans, and community supporters.
