The return of Andrew Body is nearly complete.
Alabama State head coach Eddie Robinson Jr. indicated that Body will likely be the starting quarterback when the Hornets play at UAB on Aug. 28.
“I think Body is showing that he can do it and we kind of knew that, so it’s trending towards Body,” Robinson Jr. told the Montgomery Advertiser. “He’s got a lot of games under him. He’s started a lot of games at Texas Southern, so his pitch count is way higher than some of the other guys.”
Body, who started for the Hornets in the 2024 season opener against North Carolina Central in the Orange Blossom Classic before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury, has been taking first-team reps in fall camp.
The redshirt junior says he feels strong and optimistic after missing all last season.
“Thank God for getting me back out here and allowing me to get through all that adversity,” Body told the newspaper. “It felt great getting back out here with the team, so it means everything to me.”
Body was reportedly sharp during the scrimmage, not throwing a single incompletion and leading a touchdown drive capped by a touchdown pass to wide receiver Jalen Jones.
Body, known for his dual-threat abilities, believes fans can expect an exciting offense in 2025:
“Fans can expect the greatest show on turf,” he said. “We’re not just a one-dimensional team, we can do everything and we’re not going to limit ourselves because we know we have a great defense on the other side of the ball.”
