CIAA Football Media Day brought about a shocking development involving a top star on the Winston-Salem State offense.
Head coach Robert Massey announced that running back Trevon Hester will miss the 2025 season due to a cancer diagnosis.
While Massey did not go into specifics about Hester’s diagnosis, he made it clear that he is expected to be ok and that he will be missed on the sidelines by his team.
“We’re asking for prayers and keep him in prayer, but he was a big part of what we did a year ago,” said Massey about moving forward without his top running back. “He will be missed, but we have replaced him with some capable guys so that we will be okay.”

Last season, Hester finished his junior season second in the CIAA with 82.3 rushing yards per game and fifth in the conference with 87.7 all-purpose yards per game.
The Rams finished with a winning record for the first time since 2018, and Hester was named to the All-CIAA Second Team.
Winston-Salem State has been tabbed to finish fifth in the CIAA’s predicted order of finish.
