After leading Texas Southern to a postseason appearance and a win, women’s basketball coach Vernette Skeete signed a contract extension with the school, according to reports.
The contract, which will have Skeete at Texas Southern, through the 2028-29 season, is listed at $165,000, according to HBCU Legends.
“I’m grateful for the faith that President Crawford, my athletic director, and the Board of Regents have in me to continue to lead this program and help our young women prosper,” Skeete told the website. “It’s a blessing to see the seeds planted acknowledged and encouraged. TSU is a special place! I want to make this university and community proud!”

Last season, Skeete’s Tigers started SWAC play with an eleven-game winning streak. Despite injuries, she guided the team to a .515 overall record (17-16) and a strong 14-4 SWAC record.
The Tigers also hosted their first Women’s NIT event, defeating Saint Mary’s College 54-50 before falling to Louisiana Tech.
