Following an impressive first day at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships, in which nine HBCU athletes qualified for event finals, four more added their name to that list on day two.

Lincoln (MO) sprinter Shantae George claimed the final qualifying spot for the women’s 200m by .002 seconds.

George’s teammate, Shaneal-Clarke Giddings, advanced to the women’s 800m finals, automatically qualifying after finishing second in her preliminary heat.

George and Clarke-Giddings were not finished, powering Lincoln’s women’s 4×400 relay team into the finals, running the fastest time of all preliminary teams.

Their men’s 4×400 relay team joined them later, clocking in their best time of the season at 3:05.88.

Elsewhere, Claflin’s Zion Murry qualified for the men’s 800m finals, snatching the final spot after running a 1:49.45.

Having already clinched a berth in the men’s 100m final, Johnson C. Smith’s Tyson Williams and Albany State’s Kibren Moore each qualified for the 200m final after running 20.42 and 20.53, respectively.

Finally, Winston-Salem State’s Charnessa Reid moved on to the finals of the women’s 100 hurdles, cruising through her heat in 13.20 seconds.

The field events were also kind to HBCU athletes as Bowie State’s Yassine Kamara claimed third place in the finals of the women’s Discus Throw, pitching a personal-best 52.53m.
