The wait for Shedeur Sanders continues.
The former Jackson State and Colorado quarterback Sanders experienced a stunning slide in the 2025 NFL Draft.
He was not selected in either the second or third rounds, baffling fans and analysts alike.
Once projected as a top-five pick and widely regarded as the second-best quarterback behind Cam Ward, Sanders’ fall continued past the second round, with teams passing on him despite his proven leadership and track record of turning programs around.
Sanders watched the draft alongside his father, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, and brother Shilo Sanders, as quarterbacks Cam Ward, Jaxson Dart, and Tyler Shough were chosen ahead of him. The New Orleans Saints’ selection of Shough at No. 40 marked the point at which Sanders officially slid past the second round.
Even the Las Vegas Raiders, considered a potential landing spot, bypassed him at No. 58, opting for a wide receiver instead.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe and Oregon quarterback Dillion Gabriel were the last two quarterbacks selected before Friday ended.
The quarterback’s draft stock decline was attributed to a combination of factors, including concerns about his athletic ability and arm strength and criticisms of his personality and pre-draft interviews.
An anonymous NFL coach described Sanders as “so entitled” with poor body language and decision-making, which reportedly did not sit well with some teams, including a difficult meeting with Giants head coach Brian Daboll.
Sanders remained undrafted as the draft moved beyond the third round, leaving many football analysts puzzled.

NFL Network analyst and broadcaster Charles Davis even commented why Sanders remained on the board.

Whatever the reason for Sanders’ slide, his circumstances have cast an uncomfortable shadow over the NFL Draft.
