Without a defined starting quarterback last season, Terence Graves’ Southern Jaguars still managed to win the SWAC Western Division and play in the conference championship game.
Yesterday, Graves took any mystery out of the equation by confirming to Louisiana First News reporter Brendan Fairbairn that redshirt sophomore Jalen Woods will be the Jags’ starter during spring practice.
“You always want your quarterbacks to be a part of those group of leaders,” Graves said. “Jalen has matured and grown up. He understands what we want and require, and he has stepped up to the challenge.”

Woods participated in six games in 2024, completing 38 of 66 passes for 541 yards and four touchdowns. Southern went 3-0 in each of the College Park, GA native’s starts last year.
Woods was a part of a three-man rotation at quarterback included Zae Teasett (who has since transferred to Grambling) and Noah Bodden (who transferred to Southern from Grambling).
