One of the four HBCU basketball head coaching openings is set to close Thursday afternoon.

Alabama A&M announced Tuesday morning that they will announce their new men’s basketball coach later this week, a little more than a week following the resignation of previous coach Otis Hughley Jr.

AAMU’s sports department posted a brief message on X, formerly, known as Twitter, stating that the new coach would be announced Thursday Apr. 3 at 4 p.m. local time.

Hughley resigned Mar. 25 following three seasons in charge of the Bulldogs program, compiling a record of 37-63 overall and 25-29 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.

The Alabama A&M men’s coaching job is one of several open, most on the women’s side as Norfolk State, Alabama State, Prairie View A&M and Morgan State have seen coaches resign or retire in the last month.
