Days after announcing their new head football coach, an HBCU program that appeared in the FCS playoffs last year a new defensive coordinator to match.
Gregg Williams, a coach at various positions with various stops in the NFL, now joins Reggie Barlow’s staff at Tennessee State according to a report by BrownsNation.
Williams, 66, was the head coach of the Buffalo Bills from 2001 to 2003 and the interim head coach of the Cleveland Browns during the 2018 season.

Williams is most known for his stints as a defensive coordinator, helping the Tennessee Titans to Super Bowl XXXIV and guiding the New Orleans Saints to a Super Bowl XLIV victory. He was shortly suspended because of his alleged involvement in the Bounty Gate scandal, but he was reinstated shortly after and became the defensive coordinator for the Rams.
Williams also filled that role for the Browns, and Rams in two different stints, the Jacksonville Jaguars, the New York Jets, and the Washington Commanders.
For the last two seasons, Williams was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach on Barlow’s staff with the UFL’s D.C. Defenders.
