An HBCU homecoming date has opened up as a school scheduled to visit a SWAC team has discontinued its football program.

North American University, an NAIA school scheduled to face Prairie View A&M on Oct. 25, announced Monday that it was shutting down its football program.

“In a decision that comes with great difficulty and careful deliberation, North American University (NAU) announced the discontinuation of its football program,” the school’s release states. “This move, supported by the Board of Trustees, reflects a strategic shift in the university’s investment toward areas that uphold and enhance NAU’s core mission.”

NAU, a member of the Sooner Athletic Conference, finished their last season 2-9, with their final win coming against Arkansas Baptist (31-12) on November 16.

NAU football coach and athletic director Kenneth Apande said, “This was a difficult decision, backed by the Board of Trustees, that aims to direct investment to the things that make North American University exceptional. Our goal is to still compete in the eight NAIA and USCAA sports that will remain an integral part of the NAU experience.”
