As Patrick Mahomes prepares for an attempt at his third straight Super Bowl championship, the Kansas City Chiefs all-world quarterback took time out to express a desire for HBCU football players to get more looks in the NFL.
“I show love because those guys have talent,” said Mahomes, whose foundation partners with the annual HBCU Legacy Bowl that showcases the best Black College football talent available. “I want them to receive the same opportunities I received when I was coming out of college.”

Mahomes’ reason for sponsoring the game is clear.
“Being able to sponsor that event and showcase their talent, it’s the little stuff that I can do to make sure we get the best players into the league,” he explained. “Hope we can keep the momentum going and HBCUs can continue to make an imprint as they have in this league for a long time.”
Among Mahomes’ teammates are Fayetteville State’s Joshua Williams and Bryan Cook, who spent the 2017 and 2018 seasons at Howard before transferring to Cincinnati.
