Jackson State athletic director Ashley Robinson has been busy the last few months stabilizing programs by securing coaches for the foreseeable future.
This week, the school announced that longtime JSU baseball coach Omar Johnson received a contract extension. He was the seventh coach in the last three months to sign a multi-year deal.
Johnson becomes the seventh coach in the last three months to receive a contract extension from Vice President/Director of Athletics Ashley Robinson, joining T.C. Taylor (football), Mo Williams (basketball), Marcus Hereford (volleyball), Dr. Ted Flogaites (soccer), Hernan Geria (tennis), and Kevin Montgomery (softball).
Last season, Johnson led the team to a 36-20 record, reaching the Southwestern Athletic Conference championship game.
Since taking over the program in 2007, Johnson has led the Tigers to a pair of conference championships and an undefeated regular season in 2021.
