The Miles Golden Bears ride a hot start to get a crucial 32-21 win over the Albany State Golden State, their fourth win in a row.
As a result, Miles improves to a perfect 4-0 against the SIAC, claiming sole possession of the top seed in the conference.
Albany State, on the other hand, has snapped its three-game win streak and is now 3-1 in conference competition. The Golden Rams join three other teams in the SIAC with one conference loss.
Miles scores quick
It did not take long for Miles to get on the scoreboard, as the Golden Bears put up 14 points in the first three minutes of the game.
Miles got on the board on their first offensive possession, driving the ball 70 yards down the field thanks to an explosive 43-yard run by Roderick Thomas. Khalil Anglin took advantage of the big play, pitching a 20-yard touchdown pass to Travaunte Abner.
The defense got in on the action, forcing an interception on the second Albany State offensive play and returning it for a touchdown.
This gave Miles the momentum on their way to victory.
Constant defensive pressure
The Golden Bears’ defensive line won the battle on the line of scrimmage, penetrating the backfield consistently, making it difficult on the Albany State offense.
They finished the game with six sacks (five players recorded 1.0 sacks) and five tackles for loss.
Albany State was limited to a season-low 61 rushing yards on 26 attempts.
Isaiah Knowles still produces
Despite the tremendous effort from Miles, Albany State quarterback Isaiah Knowles still found a way to be productive.
Knowles kept his streak of 200-yard passing games going. He finished with 236 yards, completing 61% of his passes and scoring two touchdowns.
In the past five games, Knowles has scored 18 passing touchdowns and is averaging 294 passing yards per game in the past three games.
