The Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls kept their record unblemished following a decisive 52-6 win over the Lincoln (PA) Lions.
Johnson C. Smith improves to 3-0, extending its regular season win streak to five games dating back to last season (not including Florida Beach Bowl loss to Fort Valley State).
JCSU off to historic start
The Golden Bulls are showing their 7-4 season last year was no fluke, getting out to a historic 3-0 start to the season. This is the first time JCSU has started a season 3-0 since 2013.
Johnson C. Smith is one of three undefeated teams remaining in the CIAA, along with Shaw and Fayetteville State.
Golden Bulls special teams set the tone
It did not take long for Johnson C. Smith to get on the scoreboard, as Ja’Qun Wilkins took the opening kickoff 89 yards to the house for a touchdown.
This marked the first kick return touchdown for JCSU since week two of the 2019 season.
From there, the Johnson C. Smith run offense took over, averaging 7.2 yards per carry on 24 attempts and accounting for five of the team’s seven touchdowns.
Running back Quavaris Crouch led the attack, scoring three rushing touchdowns on the day, including a 29-yard score.
Brevin Caldwell is CIAA Offensive Player of the Year Candidate
Through three games, Johnson C. Smith wide receiver Brevin Caldwell is putting forth a strong case for the CIAA Offensive Player of the Year award.
Caldwell added to what has already been a spectacular start to his season, finishing another big day with nine receptions for 188 yards and a touchdown.
He has scored all six of the Golden Bulls’ receiving touchdowns this season. He has also accounted for half of their receptions and 54% of their receiving yards.
