The Morgan State Bears fought valiantly against the University of Ohio, but it wasn’t enough. They lost by the final score of 21-6.
Morgan State’s record is 1-2 on the season ahead of its home opener against Virginia University of Lynchburg.
The Bears defense did all it could
The Morgan State defense put up another strong performance, forcing four Ohio turnovers, including three interceptions in the first half.
The Bears entered this contest having forced four turnovers through their first two games, while Ohio only had two turnovers through two games.
In addition, Morgan State limited Ohio to a season-low 5.9 yards per play while also recording three sacks.
Defensive lineman Lance Byndon had a breakout game for Morgan State, putting up five total tackles, 2.0 tackles for loss, and 2.0 sacks.
Morgan State’s offensive struggles continue
Despite forcing four turnovers on defense, the Bears were unable to take advantage on offense.
The Bears offense were only able to convert one of their four forced interceptions into a score, connecting on a 33-yard field goal following their second interception of the game.
The other ensuing drives ended in a punt, an interception of their own, and a turnover on downs.
After recording 244 rushing yards in their season opener against Hampton, the Bears have only managed 161 rushing yards in their last two games.
So far this season, Morgan State’s defense has forced more turnovers (8) than the offense has scored touchdowns (5).
Red Zone missed opportunities
Despite not scoring a touchdown in the game, the Bears offense had numerous opportunities to reach the end zone.
The Morgan State offense got into the red zone four times but could only score two field goals. They had a chance to put a third field goal on the scoreboard, but it was blocked.
