Golden Bulls tough on the run
Meanwhile, the Golden Bulls’ defense also played magnificently, significantly limiting Tuskegee, particularly in the first half. The Golden Tigers only managed 68 total yards in the first half, averaging 2.72 yards. In the game, Tuskegee rushed for 50 yards, its lowest total in a game since 2022. Benari Black was the star of the game for the Johnson C. Smith defensive unit, recording 10 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss.
Penalties gave Tuskegee a chance
With all the good things Johnson C. Smith did in this game, penalties almost undid all that went right for them. The Golden Bulls were called for 12 penalties, including one that could have resulted in a game-tying touchdown. Facing a fourth down and five with eight seconds remaining, Tuskegee went for a pass that was deflected, falling incomplete, and looked to have effectively ended the game. However, Johnson C. Smith was called for a hands-to-the-face penalty, giving Tuskegee one more shot to tie the game. Tuskegee took a shot to the end zone, but it was again deflected incomplete by the Golden Bulls, closing the game for good.
