Less than a week before the start of the 2024 NFL regular season, teams are working to reduce their rosters to the obligated 53-player limit.
One player who learned his fate was former North Carolina Central defensive back Brandon Codrington, who spent the preseason playing for the New York Jets.
Codrington was traded by the Jets to the Buffalo Bills, with the teams also swapping 2026 late-round draft picks.
In three preseason games with the Jets, Codrington produced seven total tackles and a pass breakup. In addition, he also contributed on special teams, returning seven punts for an average of 11.9 yards and returning a kickoff for 63 yards against the Carolina Panthers.
AFC East trade: The #Bills have traded for #Jets DB and returner Brandon Codrington, per me and @TomPelissero. It’s for a swap of late 2026 picks.

The former Eagles standout joins a Bills team that moved on from return specialist Deonte Harty, who scored their only return touchdown of the season in 2023.
Codrington enters the NFL following a four-year career at North Carolina Central, where he averaged 19.7 yards on 69 kickoff returns and 12.9 yards on 61 punt returns.

He was named to the All-MEAC team each season, including two First-Team selections and an FCS All-American Third-Team appearance in his final year.
