Another HBCU is forming a women’s gymnastics program.

Brown Girls Do Gymnastics and HBCU Gymnastic Alliance have partnered with Wilberforce University to bring collegiate gymnastics to the athletic program.

“We are excited about the innovative opportunities this collaboration brings. The introduction of a gymnastics team aligns with our commitment to providing inclusive athletic programs and highlights our belief in the power of diversity to enrich the collegiate experience,” Wilberforce President Dr. Van Newkirk said. “This partnership with BGDG marks an important milestone in our university’s athletic legacy”

Brown Girls Do Gymnastics and Wilberforce will host Camp Isla, a gymnastics camp that will take place June 20-23 on Wilberforce’s campus. The camp is open to young gymnasts ages 6 and older and will help lay the foundation for the inaugural team.

In a joint statement, Brown Girls Do Gymnastics Founder Derrin Moore said, “The launch of the third HBCU Gymnastics program in partnership with Wilberforce University, alongside the impactful Camp Isla, underscores our dedication to expanding opportunities for diverse participation in gymnastics. We are honored to collaborate with Wilberforce in this endeavor, furthering our commitment to create equitable pathways within collegiate athletics.”

The Wilberforce gymnastics team will begin competing in January 2026. They would be the third HBCU to have a gymnastic program along with Fisk and Talladega College.
