Eric Phoenix was the quarterback for Chennis Berry’s first Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship team at Benedict College.
Now, Phoenix will rejoin Berry at South Carolina State.
After a year at Murray State University, Phoenix announced his transfer to SCSU Tuesday afternoon on X, formerly known as Twitter.

“The second time ain’t nothing like the first, got to make it count! #Committed,” Phoenix posted.
At Benedict, Phoenix completed 64 percent of his passes for 2051 yards and 15 touchdowns as the Tigers won their first of two conference championships under Berry in 2022. His best performance was a 19-for-29 effort with 313 yards passing, 11 carries for 91 yards rushing, and three total touchdowns in BC’s 58-21 win over Tuskegee in the SIAC championship game.
The left-hander from Savannah, Georgia, played in three games for the Racers in 2023, completing seven of 12 passes for 137 yards and one touchdown.
