The good times – and awards – keep rolling in for Grambling State men’s basketball coach Donte’ Jackson.

Jackson, who led Grambling to its first NCAA tournament appearance and win last month, was named Ben Jobe Coach Of The Year, awarded by CollegeInsider.com each year to the country’s best NCAA Division I minority college basketball coach.

Jackson guided the Tigers to a 21-15 record and their first Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament championship as a Division I program and defeated Montana State 88-81 in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio for the program’s first NCAA tournament win.

Jackson, who previously coached at Central State and Stillman, is 120-102 in seven seasons at Grambling State, including an 81-42 mark in conference play.

The Ben Jobe Coach Of The Year award is named for the late Dr. Ben Jobe, who studied under the legendary John McClendon and was a successful head coach in his own right, leading 14-seed Southern to an upset over No. 3 Georgia Tech – and lifelong friend Bobby Cremmins – in 1993. Jobe won 524 games across NCAA and NAIA levels as a head coach.
