Norfolk State is vying for a postseason championship against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament final.
The Spartans, who fell in the MEAC Tournament semifinals to eventual champion Howard University, garnered a first-round bye and played Alabama A&M last Saturday in the semifinal round. After a very close first half, the Spartans pulled away in the second half to defeat the Bulldogs 81-66.
The championship game is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Echols Hall Arena.
NSU will face a tough opponent in Purdue Fort Wayne, who have collected a 23-12 overall record while going 11-9 in the Horizon League throughout the season. Purdue Fort Wayne fell in the quarterfinals of the Horizon League tournament before receiving an invite to the CIT.
Through the two games, the Mastodons have defeated their opponents by just three combined points, picking up a 77-75 win over Bowling Green State and a 73-72 victory over Tarleton State.
