North Carolina Central head coach Trei Oliver has broken his silence in the wake of star quarterback Davius Richard’s injury in the HBCU Legacy Bowl.
Oliver took to Twitter on Monday to voice his displeasure with the play call that led to the unfortunate injury.
“I promise [Davius Richard] would not have played if I knew that those dumbass coaches were going to run him,” he wrote. “He should never have left the pocket. You want to run hand it off to those All-American backs. Make it make sense.”

In response to this tweet, North Carolina Central kicker Adrian Olivo, who also played in the HBCU Legacy Bowl, shared his perspective on the aftermath of Richard’s injury.
“Another problem [is] they showed no emotion or cared about him getting hurt,” said Olivo in a quote tweet to Oliver’s initial tweet.
The injury came on the opening drive of the game after Richard drove his team downfield, running the ball into the end zone for his team’s only touchdown.
On the play, his leg got caught under him, causing him to remain down for several minutes, having to be carted off the field to a local medical facility.
A report claims that he suffered a dislocated ankle and could be looking at a four to six-month recovery.
