Former Alabama State running back Ja’Won Howell has announced that he has signed with the Edmonton Elks of the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Howell is the third Alabama State player to sign with the Elks in the past month, along with former defensive backs Cail Jackson Jr. and Chauncey Moore.
The former Hornet transferred to Alabama State in 2022 after spending his first four seasons at North Alabama.

He played two seasons with the Hornets, recording 680 rushing yards on 173 attempts and scoring six touchdowns. He also had 20 receptions for 197 yards.
There are 10 former HBCU players on the Edmonton Elks roster, including two Tuskegee alumni.
The 2024 season will be the 75th in the Edmonton Elks’ franchise history. They are set to play their first preseason game on May 25 against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
