South Carolina State linebacker BJ Davis has announced he is entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer with one year of eligibility remaining.

In 10 games during the 2022 season, Davis made a strong case for the MEAC Defensive Player of the Year award amassing 94 total tackles, eight tackles for loss, five interceptions, and seven pass breakups.

The Bulldogs senior was a pivotal member of the 2021 HBCU national championship team in which he was named to the All-MEAC first team.

Thank you Bulldog Nation for the memories! This program gave me a opportunity to keep playing the game & Im forever grateful 🙏🏾.With that being said, I’m announcing that I’m entering the transfer portal in December as a Graduate Transfer with 1 year of eligibility remaining #AGTG pic.twitter.com/9wxPfUgriG

In that season, Davis was among the MEAC leaders with 76 total tackles, including a Celebration Bowl performance that saw him record nine tackles and a fumble recovery.

South Carolina State is coming off a disappointing season in which they finished with a 3-8 overall record and went 1-4 against in the MEAC. This is the first time the Bulldogs have posted a conference record below .500 since 2017.
