Nearly three years after suffering a life-threatening injury, former football standout Christion Abercrombie will walk across the stage and earn his degree from Tennessee State University.

“It feels good to be graduating,” said Abercrombie. “It’s a blessing. I’m very happy.”

September 29, 2018 will be a day that Christion will never forget. After suffering an injury during the first half of the game against Vanderbilt, he was rushed to the hospital. The Atlanta, Georgia native was in critical condition before and after undergoing emergency brain surgery.

After two brain surgeries, extended hospital stays and rehabilitation therapy, Christion made a remarkable recovery.

“My mom, my dad, my brother, aunts, uncles and all my family. Without them, I don’t know where I’d be.”

As he continued to get stronger, he made plans to return to Tennessee State to finish his degree.

On Saturday, that journey will be complete.

“It’s all God. It’s a blessing when I think about it. I’m very thankful to everyone for their support and prayers.”

Christion will look to pursue a career in sports or college administration.
