South Carolina State has announced it is pausing all athletic activities following the revelation that a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.
The school said Tuesday that practices have been suspended after the first confirmed staff member was found to have tested positive for the virus, the Times and Democrat reported.
“To ensure the safety of our student-athletes and athletics staff, we have made the decision to suspend practices and are continuing to aggressively follow public health and safety guidelines,” SCSU President James E. Clark said in a statement.
The university has conducted contract tracing to determine whether athletes may have come intact with the unidentified employee. The school, however, has not announced whether any athletes have tested positive.
Clark said athletes are tested weekly in accordance with NCAA guidelines and are closely monitored by the school’s on-campus healthcare medical team.
