Fred Washington has resigned as Prairie View A&M director of athletics for personal reasons.
Mike Prince of the Mike Prince Show first reported Washington’s resignation in a tweet.

“I met with him late yesterday and he informed me he was going to resign and he’s really retiring,” Prairie View A&M President Ruth Simmons said to Fox 26’s Mark Berman in a statement. “I think it was a combination of factors, mostly related to family.”

Washington has served Prairie View A&M for 27 years which includes two stints working as the school’s AD.
Associate AD Alicia Pete has been named the institution’s interim athletics director.
